Bellator 48: I’m All Smiles
There are times in life when you see something good coming and you just can’t help but grin. This is one of those times. When I think about the card at this Saturday’s Bellator “Summer Series” event at the Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, CT, I start grinnin’ ear to ear.
The Main Event is one that any MMA fan should be dying to see: Pat Curran takes on Marlon Sandro for the featherweight tournament championship and the chance to fight Joe Warren for the Bellator featherweight title. Both of these guys are exciting fighters. This is high-level, fast-action, explosive MMA!
But before we get to the Main Event, we’re in for some fun! Heavyweight Bellator champ Cole Konrad takes on Paul Buentello in a heavyweight non-title fight. These guys bring the BOOM! I’m tellin’ you, if these two fights were the only two on the card, I’d be a happy man.
But it’s the next fight on the card that makes my grin that much wider: Seth Petruzelli vs. Ricco Rodriguez. I have a healthy, active imagination, and I can’t imagine anything happening in this fight that won’t be total marshmallowey goodness! Seth Petruzelli vs. Ricco Rodriguez?! ’nuff said!
Which is not to devalue the rest of the card, which includes a potentially kinetic match-up between lightweights Juan Barrante and Rene Nazare… and then there’s the “local” undercard: I guarantee at least two of the Main Card fights will end early and, even with MTV2’s, ahem, abundant commercial breaks, they will be televising at least one of the undercard fights to fill time!
Even if you go out on Saturday night, this Bellator line-up is the kind of thing DVRs were invented for!
