Bellator 58 results, recap and video
Talk about an amazing MMA weekend. First there was Quite posibly the greatest UFC card in history, then Bellator stepped up with Bellator 58. Made great by a championship bout between Eddie Alvarez and Michael Chandler (you can watch the entire fight below). It was incredible, I would say it was the greatest fight in Bellator hstory. If not for UFC 139 overshadowing the fights, Bellator 58 would have possibly gone down as the greatest MMA card this year.
Eddie Alvarez and Michael Chandler fought 4 amazing rounds, all 4 rounds were amazing. Each fighter had the fight won and lost on several occasions before Chandler pulled out the amazing submission victory. Michael Chandler is the real deal. Bellator better put him back in the cage very very quickly.
The rest of the card was just as good. Hector Lombard TKO’s Prangley in the 2nd round after a good back and forth that saw Lombard in control like usual, Bellator needs to find Hector some competition other than Shlemenko. If Shlemenko wins the championship, there still needs to be a higher level of comp for Hector and Shlemenko (they need more Guys like Brett Cooper). We will get to Brett in a minute, first Marlon Sandro vs. Rafael Dias was exciting, Dias caught Sandro early, making me think it was all over, yet Sandro dug deep and subbed Dias in the first round. We need to see some more of Dias, he may just be a quality prospect.
For the Local Feature fights we had some all out wars, if Brett Cooper was in the UFC, he would surely have won FOTN honors for his comeback victory over Jared Hess. Jared caught Brett early in the first round, staggering him. Jared kept the pressure on, looking like he would finish the fight before the round came to an end. I for one was not worried, I predicted Brett would win, he’s a slow starter sometimes. This was one of those times, because for rounds 2 and 3 Brett came out and put on an exciting comeback, dominating Jared Hess to a decision victory. Brett Cooper better be in the next middleweight tournament. Araujo vs Barbosa was entertaining as was Comso Alexandre’s 20 second KO of McPhatter and Jonas Billstein is a force to be reckoned with. Despite forgetting that soccer kicks are illegal, he was dominating Goodman from the word go. With his mistake, he surely will remember the rules from now forward. Look for him to feature prominately in the MW division for some time. Bellator delivered Saturday, and delivered big. Results below, as well as some video. Enjoy, I did.
