Bellator Heavyweight Title Match Delayed
Bellator can’t seem to catch a break with it’s heavyweight tournament!
After the Thiago “Big Monster” Santos fiasco, things were looking good for it’s heavyweight championship fight scheduled for Bellator 65. But perhaps it tempted fate when it scheduled it’s event on Friday the 13th.
Appearing on The MMA Show with Mauro Ranallo on April 3rd, Eric Prindle dropped a bomb when he revealed he was going to the doctor for a hand injury and also stated how serious he takes this title shot. He told Mauro that he felt like the tournament bouts were “do or die” so he had to fight with an injured ankle earlier in the tournament (oh, yeah, he also had a broken ankle and only a week to train going into that bout… another bombshell), but that his upcoming title match with Cole Konrad was too important to rush into with injury.
Bellator has been quiet on the subject.
Finally, we have confirmation via Prindle’s Twitter that his match has been pushed back to Bellator 70 on May 25. The day before the UFC’s all-heavyweight card at UFC 146, which may or may not feature a title match between Junior Dos Santos and Alistair Overeem. And a week after Strikeforce’s heavyweight grand prix finale between Josh Barnett and Daniel Cormier on May 19.
So while the wait is unfortunate, it looks like May 19-26 will be a great week for fans of heavyweight MMA!
