Dana White says 115lb or Womens division next for UFC
Strikeforce: Ronda Rousey vs. Sarah Kaufman was a huge event for Zuffa, Dana White even attended as a fan to watch his favorite female fighter, Rousey defend her title. The night was full of excitement in the Women’s division starting with Miesha Tate and Julie Kedzie’s barn burner. Because of that and the need for more divisions in the UFC, Dana White is considering putting the women’s division into the UFC sooner rather than later.
A few weeks ago we where at the UFC press conference where Dana White stated that the 115lb division was in the works, he’s since backed off that statement. It now looks like there’s serious consideration on the UFC’s part to implement a Women’s division first. Don’t get your hopes up, there are contractual obligations with Showtime in the way of bringing Rousey and the Strikeforce women over to the UFC right now, but in the future, after the 115lb division is up and running, it’s a real possibility the UFC will have a women’s division.
From the Metro PCS fan chat with Dana White:
“I am warming up to women’s MMA. I don’t think I’ve been too shy about what I think about Ronda Rousey,” White said. “She just looked impressive, and not only did she look impressive on Saturday night, her numbers killed it on Showtime, too. Ronda Rousey is a star. The fight with Miesha Tate was awesome.”
