Franklin Yanked from UFC 133?

Dana White’s tweeting again.

This time it was to let the world know that Light Heavyweight Antonio Rogerio Nogueria “Lil Nog” had to pull out of the fight with Rich Franklin, scheduled for August 6 at UFC 133 in Philadelphia due to injury.

Unlike Rashad Evan’s scheduled fight and Alexander “The Mauler”Gustafsson’s scheduled fight, Rich Franklin’s scheduled opponent won’t be replaced, according to the UFC website.

This would mean Vitor Belfort’s match against Yoshiro Akiyama will become the “co-main event” in the city of brotherly love. And Franklin would be watching the action like the rest of us (and Jon Jones, Phil Davis and Vladimir Matyushenko).

Last-minute changes in fights have become a way of life for fighters in the UFC, but chances are that this simply comes too close to fight day for any real adjustments to be expected to be made by Franklin’s camp. It’s hard to believe that a replacement couldn’t be found, although Rich Franklin is much more well-liked in the fight community than certain other fighters who’ve had to find replacements in the recent past… that said, as of this writing, the most recent tweet from Dana White is: “Lil nog is out. Working on new fight!”

At UFC 133, we’ll be seeing Rashad Evans take on Jon Jones Phil Davis Tito Ortiz in the main event and on the undercard we now get Vladimir “The Janitor” Matyushenko Matt Hamill facing Alexander Gustafsson. And the possibility of Rich Franklin taking on… ???

UPDATE: 7/17 Noon EST, Franklin tweeted: “It is true, my fight has been scratched from UFC 133.”
