Great weekend for MMA fans!

I’ve been looking forward to this action-packed weekend for a while. Televised events every day and it’s all free!

Tonight’s HD-Net broadcast of It’s Showtime—Amsterdam has some solid battles, including a great one between Sahak Parparyan and Amir Zeyada for the vacant 85Max belt. I’m not about spoilers, but I’m sure you’ll find this match entertaining.

Saturday brings Bellator 46 to MTV2, featuring fights in their featherweight tournament. One of the great things about Bellator tournaments, aside from the elimination aspect of the fights lending a little extra drama, is that the tournaments themselves are short enough to be interesting. As much as I love the idea of a one-day, one-event tournament, spreading out the bouts over the course of a few weeks gives each fighter a chance to recover and plan, which gives the fans better fights. Mixed in with the tournament action are some solid feature fights. Bellator’s match-makers do a great job of putting exciting fights together.

Sunday rounds out the weekend with UFC on Versus 4, in his return to the Octagon, Nate Marquardt headlines, as he faces off against one of the more active fighters at the moment, Rick Story. I’m resisting the urge to write “you’ve gotta love Rick’s story” (which is a test, let me tell you), but really, he’s got a good one. I like the guy. I don’t know if he can put “Nate the Great” away, though. This card is solid. Hell, the free Facebook streaming preliminary card is stacked! Personally, I’m looking forward to seeing Michael Johnson, Joe Lauzon and Manny Gamburyan fight on the prelim and all four main card fights. It should be a great way to end the weekend!
