It’s Coming! UFC 141 Full Fight Card Quick Preview!
We’re just days away from what may quite possibly be the best fight card of the year in UFC 141: Lesnar vs. Overeem and I can’t wait! December 30th can’t come fast enough!
Obviously, there’s the war that will be Brock Lesnar, now finally healthy vs Alistair Overeem, MMA fanboy favorite, talented striker: pumped up large man vs. pumped up large man!
Previewing the rest of the card:
Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone vs. Nate Diaz
This should be a great match-up with the powerful striking of Cerrone and the jiu jitsu of Diaz. Cerrone’s gone through just about everyone he’s faced and Diaz is no slouch in any area of MMA. If this were the headliner, I doubt I’d complain!
Jon Fitch vs. Johnny Hendricks
Jon Fitch is perpetually in the title hunt and Johnny Hendricks is coming off a powerhouse dominating performance. This should be a great fight too!
Alexander Gustafsson vs. Vladimir Matyushenko
These guys have been going at each other in the MMA media. Both are talented. This should be a war!
Jim Hettes vs. Nam Phan
This fight I could do without. Kidding! Nam Phan’s journey from TUF to today has been a challenging one, but one he has generally been on the prevailing side of, and Hettes is no slouch at 9-0 with all victories coming as submissions, including Alex “Bruce Leroy” Caceres in August. Can Phan hold him off? This will be the first bout on the main card, and it should be a strong starter for the PPV.
Spike TV Prelims
Junior Assuncao vs. Ross Pearson
Ross Pearson has shown himself to be an accomplished striker and always comes to fight. Junior Assuncao will have his hands full as Pearson is dropping down to 145 and says his trainers have been “building a monster” to face the 13-4 native of Georgia. Assuncao’s experience will be a big factor in this fight.
Danny Castillo vs. Anthony Njokuani
Njokuani’s been impressive and shown a vicious streak, with 8 of his 14 wins coming by way of TKO/KO including an impressive showing against Chris Horodecki. Castillo’s stepping in for an injured Ramsey Nijem and coming off his TKO of Shamar Bailey last month should be in great shape and ready to give “The Assassin” Njokuani all he can handle!
Soon we will say goodbye, Facebook as the Fox deal comes in and switches these out to Fuel, but for now, get ready to stream these fights because there are some good ones:
Dong Hyun Kim vs. Sean Pierson
Efrain Escudero vs. Jacob Volkmann
Luis Ramos vs. Matt Riddle
Manny Gamburyan vs. Diego Nunes
Any one of these fights could make their way to the PPV broadcast if it ends early. The UFC at this point is so talent-laden that these prelims are possible! Normally, these fights would make the main card or at the very least push the main card for fight of the night awards, but with this card, they just add to the already explosive main card.
Don’t sleep on any of these fights! There isn’t a clunker among them. Ring in the new year early with one of the best cards of the year!*
*Yes, I’m including Shogun vs. Hendo, Jones vs. Machida… in a year full of stacked cards, this one may top them all!
