Jeff Curran back in the UFC
I must admit, I was amazed when I heard the news, The Big Frog is back. How? Not to throw mud, have you seen his recent record? It’s not all that stellar, I was hoping for a big run in Bellator for him, followed by a grand homecoming to the UFC. Fortunately for Jeff, he didn’t need the big run in Bellator, just a few wins in his XFO promotion (he reportedly has some percentage of XFO, he is however hands off due to him fighting in the promotion).
With a 33-13-1 record, Jeff is a seasoned veteran, is that enough for him to make an impact in the crowded/highly ranked 135lb division? Curran reportedly signed a multi fight deal, his first fight is with the higly ranked Scott Jorgensen (who you may remember recently went the distance with current champ Dominick Cruz to a decision loss). The UFC certainly isn’t giving Curran an easy first fight, in fact it’s probably gonna be his toughest fight since Mizugaki in 2009. Curran has notable losses agains the UFC’s top 135/145lb talent, Joseph Benavidez, Uriah Faber, Mike Brown, Hatsu Hioki and the aforementioned Mizugaki. Has The Big Frog stepped up his game? Will he be competitive against the upper echelon the UFC has to offer? I’m not sure just yet. Lets see how he performs against Jorgensen, then we can get a better gauge.
In the meantime, Welcome Back Big Frog and good luck, you just stepped into the thunderdome.
