UPDATED: Overeem? in UFC? on Fox? vs… Brock?

UPDATE: So the announcement, frankly, was a slight bit of a disappointment: The first UFC on Fox event will be a heavyweight championship fight between Junior Dos Santos and current Champion Cain Velasquez. It will be November 12th at the Honda Center in Anaheim.

The one-hour Fox show will only guarantee televising the Velasquez-Dos Santos bout, although there will be a full fight card for those in attendance.

I said disappointing, but that’s only in context of what had been rumored. In reality, I am very much looking forward to this fight!

However, I kept waiting for a Steve Jobsian, “One More Thing” about Overeem, but it did not come.

Apparently, Dana White’s about to make a “big announcement” at 1:00 pm EST, and the whole MMA world is buzzing with breathless anticipation about what it could possibly be. OK, maybe that was a little over-the-top.

Actually, the UG has posted information from The Netherlands that Alistair Overeem, current contract-less Strikeforce Heavyweight Champion, is indeed coming to the UFC, as we’ve speculated about here, and has been widely rumored all over the Internet.

@UFConFox tweeted, and UFC confirmed that this announcement will be the first fight on Fox, which is scheduled for November.

Which doesn’t preclude an Alistair Overeem/Brock Lesnar match-up…
