Phil Davis Out of UFC 133?

Three weeks away from his fight with Rashad Evans, the word is: Phil Davis is out.

Hurt in training with a reported knee injury, Davis allegedly can’t go. So once again, former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Rashad Evans finds his fight plans altered…

Originally scheduled to face Jon Jones, Evans already had a change of plans when Jones had to pull out with an injury during his training camp, which set up this fight with Davis.

Unlike Evans, Davis has been a fairly active fighter. He’s fought five times in the UFC since February, 2010, so its not a stretch to imagine an injury in training camp when he’s pushing his body so often.

For Davis, this would have to be a big blow: Philadelphia is his home town. Surely he had friends and family coming in from all around to see him fight live.

For Evans, it means uncertainty, and once again, change. Again.

Jon Jones and Phil Davis are very different fighters. When Jones pulled out, Evans had to switch the emphasis of his camp to focus on Davis’ strengths.

The fight was to be the Main Event at UFC 133 in Philadelphia. Promo photography has been taken, interviews have been done. Magazine stories written. More importantly to locals, tickets have been sold.

Just like UFC 132, the Main Event will have to change. The next biggest draw on the card is Rich Franklin vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira. Can that fight carry a PPV?
