Redemption! Given little chance, Jamie Varner dominates!

A few fights ago, after a particularly disappointing loss, Jamie Varner was ready to call it quits. He’d fallen from grace, hit the bottom and decided he’d had enough. He made an announcement that his career was over; he would retire.

Then something happened. The emotions of that night faded, the spirits grabbed hold of him again and Jamie Varner decided he wanted more.

Jamie Varner was back.

After a few wins outside the Zuffa umbrella, Varner received a call from the big show. Could he fill in on short notice for an injured fighter? Yes.

It was against Edson Barbosa. Uh oh.

The same Barbosa that leveled Terry Etim with a kick that caused Etim to go stiff. It was perhaps the most devastating knockout in The Octagon™ ever. It was crazy. CRAZY. Varner was a huge underdog, and for good reason: Barbosa is a beast who is quickly rising in the division and Varner, well… didn’t he retire a few fights ago?

But Varner said yes and walked into The Octagon™ on Saturday during the UFC 146 prelims and did what he does. He won the fight the only way anyone gave him a chance to: Heavy hands and swarming Barbosa, chasing him down and knocking him out.

This was a statement fight… and that statement is… Jamie Varner is back!

And that’s a wonderful thing for us fight fans!
