Tito Ortiz tells Cris Cyborg to pass on Rousey fight?
MMaJunkie.com is reporting that Tito Ortiz advised against Cris ‘Cyborg’ Santos facing Ronda Rousey att UFC 157.
“That’s the fight that should be happening,” White said. “Tito Ortiz is her manager, and he advised against it.”
Now Tito has denied that he did this. In case you are wondering what Tito has to do with Santos, he’s her new management. In a text message Ortiz denied White’s claim.
“That was never said!” he wrote. “‘Cyborg’ will fight her anytime, anywhere at 145. Cris said she would kill herself trying to make 135. I won’t allow it, (and) neither should the UFC or Dana. Cris wants the fight, fans want the fight, and so does the UFC.
“If Ronda is such a great fighter, why doesn’t she fight at the weight she started at? This is no different than (Anderson) Silva cutting to 170 to fight GSP. It’s not healthy, period.”
We here at MMA Rants Today have heard from multiple sources over the past few months that Tito’s Management company has indeed been advising Cris to pass on the fight unless it is contested at 145 or if all else fails, at a catchweight of 140. Like everything else that we haven’t seen/heard firsthand we don’t know if this is true or not, but with Dana putting it out there, it’s definitely got legs now.
What really matters in the long run is that Rousey and Cris fight, that’s all the fans care about, the best needs to face the best. Let’s get this one done ladies.
