UFC 140: Jon Jones vs. Lyoto Machida Full Fight card and predictions
UFC 140 is gonna be…I have no idea. It has the potential to be great, or mediocre. I’m not interested in seeing Lyoto Machida compete for the belt, again. I don’t think he earned this title shot. I expect Jon Jones to dismantle ‘the elusive one’ from the opening bell. Still, Lyoto was a champion, was undefeated, and is in the top 10 LHW’s in the UFC. I can’t count him out, nor can I dismiss the possibility of a very competitive fight. Let’s hope.
Tito and Mir vs. The Nog Brothers is also a conundrum. On the one hand, I want to see Tito win, but I don’t want to see Lil Nog lose and potentially leave the UFC. With Mir, I don’t want to see Big Nog get KO’d again, but I dont want him to win either. I also don’t really want to see Mir win and move back into the title hunt so soon. I am very excited to see how the Korean Zombie does against Mark Hominick. I’m expecting an exciting fight from these two. The rest of the card is interesting, it’s the place I expect to see the most excitement. It’s almost time for me to pour a shot and enjoy some MMA. Feel free to place your predictions in the comments section. As always, my predictions are in green. Enjoy.
- Light Heavyweight Championship bout: Jon Jones (c) vs. Lyoto Machida
How can anyone pick against Jon ‘Bones’ Jones? It is Lyoto Machida, anything could happen. I am doubtful that Machida has Jones’ number. Jones has the reach, the speed and the cardio to outwork and frustrate Machida. Machida’s elusiveness will not come into play as much as with other opponents. He will have to cover to big a distance to get inside of Jon Jones reach. I’m gonna have to go with Jon ‘Bones’ Jones byt 3rd round T/KO.
- Heavyweight bout: Frank Mir vs. Antônio Rodrigo Nogueira
Frank Mir has improved on every level in the past few years. He’s gotten much bigger, faster, and his hands have improved greatly. Big Nog is a legend, he’s faced them all, from Fedor down. The last time he faced Mir he got KO’d quickly, after being in the hospital for a staph infection. Was that the cause of his loss? No, Frank Mir’s fists where, yet, he was at a disadvantage. Will he be able to avenge that loss? I don’t think so, I think Mir is faster and better on his feet, leading to the same ending. Yet, I’m still gonna call it as Frank Mir by decision (this is wishful thinking as I fully expect Mir to T/KO Big Nog).
- Light Heavyweight bout: Tito Ortiz vs. Antônio Rogério Nogueira
Tito Ortiz has gone through one hell of a transformation! From the ‘Huntington Beach Bad Boy’ to ‘The Peoples Champ’. His win over Ryan Bader, and loss to Rashad Evans (followed by his acceptance without excuses) have been refreshing. Lil Not is also a legend. Coming from Pride, one half of the Nogueira brothers and head of a quality team that trains the likes of Lyoto Machida and Jose Aldo and Anderson Silva. This was a dangerous matchup for Tito last year, this year I think it’s dangerous for Lil Nog. Tito is still hungry, he’s motivated and his loss to Rashad is fresh. Lil Nog will have to defend the relentless takedown to win. I don’t know if he can. Tito Ortiz by decision.
- Welterweight bout: Claude Patrick vs. Brian Ebersole
Both Claude Patrick and Brian Ebersole are quality fighters. In fact, this matchup is very very competitive, with a slight edge going to Ebersole in my book for experience. Otherwise, they are even. I expect a good back and forth war both standing and on the ground leading to Brian Ebersole by decision.
- Featherweight bout: Mark Hominick vs. Chan Sung Jung
Chan Sung Jung is one of the most exciting fighters in the UFC. Mark Himinick is an up and coming fighter who took Jose Aldo the distance and almost pulled out a victory. This has the makings of FOTN already. Both have good stand up, with Mark’s being more technical, they both have good ground games with Chan’s being more technical. Once again, evenly matched for the most part. They are both experienced veterans, hungry and on the Title hunt. My brain says Mark Hominck, but my hear says Chan Sung Jung by submission. Despite the inner turmoil, I’m gonna have to say Chan Sung Jung ‘The Korean Zombie’ by decision.
Preliminary card (Ion Television)
- Light Heavyweight bout: Krzysztof Soszynski vs. Igor Pokrajac
I’m looking forward to seeign KSOS in the cage again. I expect Soszynski by T/KO.
- Middleweight bout: Jared Hamman vs. Constantinos Philippou
- Lightweight bout: John Makdessi vs. Dennis Hallman
Dennis Hallman owes me a copy of his diet plan dammit! he is a Celiac (allergic to Gluten is the easiest way to explain it), competing at he highest level of MMA, the info in his diet would help many. Rant over. Dennis Hallman by submission.
- Bantamweight bout: Yves Jabouin vs. Walel Watson
