UFC 145: Jon Jones vs Rashad Evans Full Fight Card and Predictions
It’s here, well it’s hours away. UFC 145. Jon ‘Bones’ Jones. Rashad Evans (I can’t in good conscience use his nickname, the last person I will acknowledge as ‘Sugar’ is Sugar Ray Leonard). Maximo Blanco. Anthony Njokuani. Mark Hominick. Miguel Torres. The list just goes on. This card is stacked with fighters I want to see, and they are fighting opponents I want to see them face. It’s a good weekend to be an MMA fan!
Let’s get right into it, as usual my predictions are in Green, Ranters, post your predictions in the comments section. Cheers!
- Light Heavyweight Championship bout: Jon Jones (c) vs. Rashad Evans
Jon Jones is something special, something very special. Rashad Evans is fast, very very fast, and technical. I give Rashad the best chance of beating Jones of anyone he’s faced yet. Rashad has excellent wrestling, and did I mention he’s fast? His performance against Phil Davis wasn’t a performance that will beat Jones tho. Jones on the other hand has been dominant, destroying Shogun, Rampage and Lyoto Machida, finishing all 3. Jones is the heavy favorite, but don’t think for a second that Rashad can’t win this fight. Despite the skill set and ability to win this one, I’m gonna go with Jon Jones, I think he’s gonna stay outside for the first round and pick Rashad apart, then take him down in the 2nd, GNP’ing him and finally finishing him in the 3rd by TKO/KO. Jon Jones by TKO/KO.
- Welterweight bout: Rory MacDonald vs. Che Mills
I’m not the most excited about this fight, not sure why. Che Mills is exciting, Rory MacDonald is a beast. Yet, I’m not excited. Part of me wants to say Che by TKO/KO, the other part says Rory will pick him apart…hmmm. I’m gonna have to say Rory MacDonald by decision.
- Heavyweight bout: Brendan Schaub vs. Ben Rothwell
Rothwell didn’t look to good agains Mark Hunt, I know that HW’s in the Denver altitude is a recipe for disaster every time, but he still hasn’t looked all that good in any of his UFC fights. He did look good at the weigh ins, best I’ve ever seen him. Schaub is the younger, dare I say, hungrier fighter. I think this one goes to Schaub.
- Bantamweight bout: Miguel Torres vs. Michael McDonald
I believe Miguel Torres beat Demetrious Johnson. Torres is 40-4 while McDonald is 14-1. Experience is gonna play a big factor here. Torress was the reigning 135lb champ in WEC for years and has faced the divison has had to offer for many years now. McDonald is stepping up in competition, I expect Torress to use his range and pick McDonald apart from the outside getting the decision victory. Miguel Torres by Decision.
- Featherweight bout: Mark Hominick vs. Eddie Yagin
Hominick and Yagin are looking to get a ‘W’ and start back up the ladder towards title contention. Hominick almost did the impossible by beating Jose Aldo, he came within inches of taking a decision away from the Champ, in his next outing he was KO’d by Chan-Sung Jung in .07 seconds. yagin lost to Junior Assuncao at UFC 135 back in Sept. 2011. The long layoff isn’t gonna help him against a tough fighter like Hominick. I feel Mark has the edge here, with his striking and with his UFC experience and facing Aldo. Mark Hominick by decision.
- Lightweight bout: Mark Bocek vs. John Alessio
Marck Bocek gets the honor of welcoming John Alessio back into the UFC. Alessio has been on a tear since being released from the WEC b ack in 08′ going 12-3 and riding a 3 fight win streak currently. Expect this to be a back and forth dirty war with Alessio edging out a decision victory. John Alessio by Decision.
Preliminary card (FX)
- Heavyweight bout: Travis Browne vs. Chad Griggs
Travis Browne and Chad Griggs are HW’s with great records. Browne has 12-0-1 while Griggs has 11-1, both have more TKO/KO wins not. This is not a fight to take your eyes off. IT’s gonna end quick, real quick. They are so evenly matched IMO, I’m gonna flip a coin and pick….Chad Griggs it is!
- Welterweight bout: Matt Brown vs. Stephen Thompson
Matt Brown is the next step in Wonderboy, Stephen Thompson’s UFC career ladder. After a specatular KO victory over Dan Stittgen, and a 6-0 MMA record, I expect Stephen to continue his winning ways. Matt Brown is tough fight that will test all of Thompson’s skills and determine if he’s ready for what the UFC has to offer. Stephen Thompson by decision.
- Lightweight bout: John Makdessi vs. Anthony Njokuani
John Makdessi is 9-1 with his only loss to Dennis Hallman. Anthony Njokuani is coming off a loss to Danny Castillo, both fighters like to stand and bang, this will be stand up battle until Njokuani lands a big shot, then I expect Makdessi to take it to the ground. I‘m gonna go with Njokuani by TKO/KO.
- Lightweight bout: Mac Danzig vs. Efrain Escudero
Mac Danzig has had a tough 7 fight run, with 5 losses and only 2 wins. This could be a do or die situation for the one time TUF Winner. Efrain Escudero Lost his last fight, at UFC 141 after his win in Bellator 55. Both fighters come to fight and I expect this to be a war. I’m gonna go with Efrain Escudero.
Preliminary card (Facebook)
- Welterweight bout: Keith Wisniewski vs. Chris Clements
Chris Clements. TKO/KO. Yup, that’s what I’m calling.
- Featherweight bout: Marcus Brimage vs. Maximo Blanco
Maximo Blanco is making his featherweight debut. He didn’t have a great debut in Strikeforce, I’m hoping the new weight and UFC opportunity bring out the Maximo Blanco I’m used to seeing destroy opponents in the cage. Marcus Brimage is a great test, regardless, I’m gonna pick Maximo Blanco, as he is one of my all time favorite fighters. Maximo Blanco by TKO/KO.
