UFC 148 Full Fight Card and Predictions
It’s almost here, just hours away in fact. Are you at the UFC Fan expo? Are you excited for this card? Did you watch the Weigh-Ins? Did I ask enough questions? I’m gonna jump right in, the Fan Expo is crazy and I gotta get back to ‘work’. As always, my predictions are in Green. Make yours in the the comments section.
Middleweight Anderson Silva (c) vs Chael Sonnen
Chael is in Anderson’s head. The conference call tirade, trying to start a fight at the Press Conference and the Weigh ins attest to this. Anderson is rattled, Chael is cool and calm like usual. This fight really comes down to the first round, if Anderson can move and pick apart Sonnen, he wins by KO/TKO. If he gets taken down it’s all Chael all day. Chael’s last fight against Bisping was terrible, his fight against Stann before that was magnificent. Anderson destroyed Yushin Okami, someone I didn’t feel was a match for what Silva offers in the Octagon™. If the Chael that fought Bisping show’s up, it’s no good. Anderson has all of the power in this fight, it’s up to him to stay calm and pick his shots while avoiding the takedown. I’m gonna go with Chael Sonnen by Decision.
Light Heavyweight Forrest Griffin vs Tito Ortiz
I’m gonna pick this one by coin flip. Tito is always dangerous, always has the chance ot land a bobm, lock up a sub or GnP a victory. Don’t sleep on Tito, he’s still a force. He looked good against Bader and even against Rashad until he got caught. Forrest Griffin is coming off a KO loss to Shogun and a long layoff with his family and new baby. He’s healed, focused and ready to put on a show. Forrest’s days in the Octagon™ are numbered, I expect him to go for broke tonight and try to finish Tito. I’ve flipped the coin and I’m going with Forrest Griffin. I wouldn’t be mad if Tito Ortiz rode off into retirement with a win tho.
Middleweight Cung Le vs Patrick Côté
This fight is a strange on for me to call. Cung Le brings something unique to the Octagon™, but Wanderlei showed everyone how to work around that. Cote has been working his way back into the UFC and many feel his striking has improved greatly. I think Cung Le has taken the time to train properly for this fight, and will be ready to bring a cautious striking gameplan ending in a TKO/Ko victory over Cote. Cung Le by TKO/KO.
Welterweight Dong Hyun Kim vs Demian Maia
I’m not much interested in this fight other than for it being an MMA event. I don’t care about either of these fighters, where they land in the rankings or who they fight next. I’ve never been impressed with Kim nor Maia for that matter. Still, I have to pick so…Kim by decision.
Featherweight Chad Mendes vs Cody McKenzie
I’m am super excited about this fight. Cody is trying his had at 145, a place I think he will have more strength in. Chad Mendes is coming off his loss to Jose Aldo and is a great fight for Cody. The favorite should be Mendes in this fight, he has more power a great submission game and is used to cutting to 145. Still, I’m a Cody fan and his time with the Diaz brothers is paying off. I’m gonna go with Cody McKenzie by McKenzetine.
Bantamweight Ivan Menjivar vs Mike Easton
This is another fight I’m excited about. The Bantamweight division is growing, I fully expect it to be the most exciting division in the UFC. Ivan and Mike are 2 guys to keep and eye on win or lose. I like Easton, but I don’t think he beat Papazian in their last fight. Ivan is faster, but Easton is stronger. It’s a closely matched bout and I’m going with Mike Easton by decision.
