Waking up Early/Staying Up Late! Neil Grove vs. Todd Duffee Headline SFL 2!
MMA is worldwide. It’s continuing popularity and expansion has never been greater. Last month, India’s Super Fight League held it’s first event, featuring a concert followed by a full fight card.
It featured a mix of local fighters and imports from the west, including a headline bout featuring Bob Sapp vs. James Thompson. The event was broadcast worldwide on YouTube and had several good, competitive fights.
April 7th, SFL 2 is going down, featuring another eight matches, headlined by a heavyweight fight between Neil “Goliath” Grove taking on Todd Duffee.
Clearly, Super Fight League is making moves to bring in fighters and raise the profile of MMA in India. Until recently, Bellator events had aired on a cable channel there and WWE is popular. There’s lots of room in India’s huge market for MMA to make inroads and SFL is making a big splash, combining concerts featuring some of the country’s biggest stars with live MMA following. In person, they’re filling 6,000 seat venues and are working on TV deals to bring SFL fights to the world. In the meantime, YouTube streams the events live and then selected fights are available individually there. Which is to say nothing of their freakin’ awesome theme music!
It’s streaming early. Very early in the morning. So early, one has to debate whether to attempt sleeping or just stay up throughout the night… after tonight’s TUF, Bellator and HD-Net Fights… I don’t know if sleep is really an option!
