Who retired after UFC 133?
It is being Reported that Matt Hamil is retiring after his UFC 133 loss.
Duff Holmes (Matt’s Manager and Trainer) told MMAjunkie.com:
“To be honest with you, after ‘Rampage,’ he was done, He told me, ‘I just can’t stand the constant pain.'”
“I was ready to make this decision after UFC 130, but my friends, family, coaches and most importantly my daughter encouraged me to give it one last chance,My career has been plagued by injuries starting with ‘The Ultimate Fighter’ and disrupted my training ever since.
“There hasn’t been even one training camp where I’ve been able to train without training around an injury. I have not been kind to my body, and it has nothing left after 28 years of nonstop competition. It’s time to finally give it a rest.”
“Thank you to all my training partners who have shared their blood sweat and tears with me along the way, Thank you to all my friends and family for their unconditional support and most of all thank you to my fans! It’s the fans that have made this the truly special experience it has been.
I for one am saddened by this, I liked Hamil and what he stood for. I feel he has a few more good years of fighting left. I can understand why he is retiring. Hamil would most likely never have been able to reach the top of the ladder in his division. As talented as he is, he is overshadowed by the upper echelon. Hamil has been the upper echelon in sports most of his life, it can’t be easy to realize your not gonna be there in your chosen profession. Walking away now, while his health is solid, with the accomplishments he’s achieved in the sport is a wise move, I will miss The Hammer. Thank you Matt. Good luck in your new endeavors.
